How will it work?

Instagram says that when you view a checkout-enabled product in a post or story, the user will see the option to ‘checkout on Instagram’. From here you can select from various options such as size and colour. You will then proceed to payment without leaving Instagram.

After filling out details like your name, email, billing information and shipping address you can proceed to payment without leaving Instagram. Your information will be saved for the next time you shop within the app.

After placing an order, a user can view their order status, estimated delivery time and tracking number, ability to cancel orders or request additional support all with the app.

Will it be a game changer?

There are still many details to be clarified for Instagram checkout so it is difficult to know if it will be a game changer for online shopping or if it more likely to be a great tool for many companies but not something that radically changes the shopping landscape.
